What was happening before the accident occurred?
Students look at a picture of a street and then are told that an accident occurred an hour later.
Students are given the first line of a story and must complete it in the past continuous. Then they recount things that were happening in their life at a certain moment, for example, when they got home yesterday.
This is the basic version of charades using the past continuous.

What were you doing at X time?
Students are given a list of times and then asked to say what they were doing at those times. The other students will call their bluff.
